WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY: The NFL Will Penalize Teams If Players Kneel During The National Anthem On The Field

The National Football League announced Wednesday that starting this season, all players on the field must stand for the National Anthem — or their team will face fines.

Players who want to kneel or not stand will have to do so “in the locker room,” according to the new rules.

“This season, all league and team personnel shall stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement posted online.

Goodell said that the league would change its Game Operations Manual, which the NFL describes on its website as a “bible” with “nearly 200 pages of procedures and policy for regular season games alone,” to reflect this change. The rules currently state that all players must be on the field for the Anthem.

“A club will be fined by the League if its personnel are on the field and do not stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem,” Goodell said.

Here’s the full statement:

The National Football League Player’s Organization issued a statement shortly after the news broke saying that they had not been consulted about this change and would review it as a union.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

The NFL is trying its level best to just get fucking cancelled isn’t it? Disrespectful money grubbing trump pasty ass kissing bastards…the majority of your fucking employees are men of color…how deaf to their issues can you possibly be?

I hope they all stay in the locker room, but this won’t last either. The idea is to compel players to do what they want (bought, sold, and traded like….). Then, the racists who pose as patriots will be curious about what goes on in the locker room, and will put a stop to that. Each team could also put up some bogus barrier that will make it impossible to stay in the locker room during the anthem.

Would just walking out of their teams and refusing to play do any good?

This enforced nationalism isn’t going to lead anywhere anyone wants to go.

‘Royal weddings’ are a reinforcement of a toxic establishment that continues to keep a boot on the neck of the poor and underprivileged, but go on, tell us how important it is to have an ‘escape from reality.’

Sometimes we all need a little moment of joy.

Vivian Darkbloom was the name of a Xena fan fiction writer back in the day and she was probably one of the more brilliant, original writers out there (her Mel and Janice stories are some of the best and earliest examples of epic AU writing, and her ‘trailer trash’ series is still hilarious).  Here’s a Whoosh article on her contribution to what was then called ‘uber’ fiction in Xena.

Her Xenafiction.net page is still available with links to her stories, all of which I can recommend (even if you’re not familiar with Xena, you’re probably familiar with the tropes associated with her and you’ll certainly find something to connect with).

I’m very pleased that she’s still around, still writing and has even posted one of her classic Xena stories, Infamiaon AO3.  I do hope she chooses to upload more of her Xena fiction so it can be easily found by a new audience, whom I know will love it all.

Do give her a follow, support and read.

if you dont have me on facebook you are probably not missing out on any posts but the comment section is important too lmao

I went to the Renaissance faire dressed as a warrior.  I had a real sword with me, too.  I was standing (in character) next to a sword-fighting ring, where kids of all ages got the chance to pick up a sword and challenge the champion.  Some woman walks by, with her little girl.  The girl starts walking towards the ring, saying she wants to fight.  But the mom pulled her away hella sharply, and was like, “That’s for boys.”  You don’t want to be a BOY, do you?”    And the girl looked around and saw me.  I think she thought I was a boy; I had my hair in a ponytail, and was wearing a hood.  So she comes up to me and asks me, “Do you think girls can be fighters, too?”  And her mom looks like she’s silently gloating.  Like she thinks I’m going to say no.  So I take off my hood, untie my hair so that it flows freely, and kneel before her.  And I’m like, “Milady, anyone can be a fighter.”  I swear, the look on that mother’s face made my day.

This post was good but then it got better

Okay, this is a slight topic diversion, but in response to the above comment. I’ve volunteered at the CT Ren Faire for years now. For the last 5 or so I’ve worked in the game section, and we have a game similar to the above comment called “Smite the Knight”. I’ve been in the ring before, it’s a ton of fun getting to run around with the kids. The main goal is entertainment. Have a good shtick, keep the crowd engaged, and let the kids have a good time.

In both work and observing, I have learned something about kids. A lot of parents try to get their boys to go fight. Of the young ones that do, they tend to be shy. You get the ones who just swing the boffer swords around with no regard for life, but, mostly, they’re reserved. It’s adorable. I mean, they’re kids.

But the girls. THE GIRLS. Holy crap. I swear, the pinker the dress, the more taffeta and glitter…the more intensity. I remember, the first year I worked there, one girl came in, grabbed the biggest sword she could, and WENT TO TOWN on our knight. Lifted it over head, let out this primal scream and mowed him down. Homeboy is 6′2″, she was FIVE. And once he was in the fetal position (He was fine. It was for show.) on the ground, she stopped, put her foot on his chest, and yelled “I AM A FIERCE PRINCESS!!”. Later in the day when she walked by a couple of us yelled “Ah! It’s the fierce princess!” and she stopped and flexed. It was the best, and I will never forget that girl.

OH MY GOD IT’S BACK YES

This has improved since last I reblogged.

I taught karate for like 5 years, and the girls were always, pound for pound, better than the boys. Even the girls who didn’t really want to do it and were only there because their parents made them were better than like 95% of the boys.

I was playing fiddle at a ren faire, and two little girls were really enjoying our set. After quite some time one of them walked up to me and shyly offered me her star tinsel tiara, because she “didn’t have any money. And this protects you from trolls!” I said “Thanks, that’s really sweet – but what about you? Don’t you need protection from trolls?”

At which point this six-ish-year-old girl whips out her certificate from the axe throwing booth and says “Nah, I’m fine.”

I still have that tinsel tiara. It’s draped over my modem. I figure it’ll protect me from the most trolls that way.

I am not in the habit of reblogging a post and slapping an “it got better” on there BUT I SAY GOTDAMN

I rather live for the day when pink and taffeta replace black leather and muscle shirts as *the* badass formal wear.

There’s a horrifying nihilism feeding the indifference, greed and cruelty of a governance that has no moral centre.

If we don’t fight back with all the compassion and understanding we can muster, how will anything change?
