Now, I know it is more than likely Bill Potts will turn out alright, somehow (if she doesn’t, woe to them that did it), but the fact that they did this, even temporarily, for shock value, for a laugh, even – makes me physically ill. I can’t imagine what young queer girls of colour are thinking right now. Representation matters and, yes, Bill Potts deserves better.
Oh, and Aunty Beeb – portraying ‘Mr. Razor’ as a Shylock/Rasputin/Romany ‘villain’ is racist.
PS: Calling The Master the childish nickname ‘Missy’ because of a gender change is still sexist and annoying as is the BBC and fans feteing ‘the return of the Master’ when John Simms was announced – all underlining how Michelle Gomez was so often not considered the ‘real’ Master at all (some still thought she was the Rani). What next? If you do cast a woman in the role of the Doctor do we have to call her ‘Nursie?’
