// Hey, friends, I just had someone try a fishing attempt on my blog.  If it wasn’t a bot and instead a real person: back up, creep.

That being said, apparently this is a thing that has happened before to other people, and I’m grateful for my suspicion.  If you get a youtube video (one by C.rosa R.osa in my case – apparently a favorite for this) randomly sent in as a submission, and you see some name with a sketchy h.otmail email address linked to it, DO NOT CLICK ON THE EMAIL ADDRESS.  The video is just a link to y.outube, yes, but the email link is not.  It is a fishing attempt and will lead you to a blank page.  Fortunately I looked this up before I did anything, so joke’s on you asshole.

This is so incredibly random, and I’ve never had this happen before, but it weirded me tf out enough to make a post about it.

Anyway, again, for that person who submitted that – get the hell off of my blog and off of tumblr.  Ridiculous.

Hey heads up, this is what it looks like:

I don’t usually click on the e-mail anyway, but thank God for this post. I’m blocking and deleting this submission.
Watch out, guys !

Tumblr Boycott to Protest Continued Lack of Movement to Ban White Nationalists

Tumblr @staff have been silent about the use of this site by white nationalist bloggers, while numerous other sites (see this post) have made actions to ban nazis/white nationalists/”alt-right”/fascists. Tumblr needs to know their lack of action is unacceptable. I love my tumblr community and want to stay, but if this continues, I will have to considering leaving.

I suggest we push back, and unite to boycott on a certain date. I’m arbitrarily suggesting September 1st – it’s nine days from this post, and that gives it enough time to hopefully get spread as far as possible. Boycotts only work if lots of people do it. Please consider joining me and logging off tumblr on September 1st, to let them know we’re serious about their apathy towards white nationalism.

Great idea.

Let’s also let @staff know that as they’re trying to increase advertiser spend, they should be well-aware of most ad tech companies (on the buy and sell side) have explicit rules against hate speech. You can tell Tumblr is aware of this because they’ve doubled-down on trying to locate the NSFW posts (quite badly based on how their technology fails so often) for what I imagine is brand safety for advertisers.

Given groups like Sleeping Giants has been successful in amplifying the voices of users protesting brands appearing on Breitbart, any other platform could be next in having their advertisers signaled with a screenshot of said posts where hate speech is proudly displayed against an ad served… well, you get the drift.

1.) Boycott

2.) Screenshot and tweet, byeeeeee

this is the one thing that might have an effect. all our @staff and emails and million-note posts don’t do shit, so hit ‘em where it hurts – their wallets.

one day – no posts, no replies, no hits. stay off tumblr. September 1st.

I plan on participating.

September 1st!!!

I won’t be here, anyone else with me?

-Mod Ryan

I will boycott tumblr on september 1st and I highly encourage each of my followers to do the same

Same – let’s get more notes on this.  This needs heavy traffic.

A day without Tumblr – 1 September.

Two weeks ago, my father was diagnosed with cancer. My Dad hasn’t been able to work for quite some time; he has a neurological/muscular disease in the same family as MS. He can’t do basic tasks, like cooking, cleaning, driving, or writing his name. Most days he can barely walk across the room even with the help of a cane and someone at his elbow. With this cancer diagnosis, his already poor health has taken a nose dive.

I didn’t want to have to create a fundraiser for my Dad, but the fact of the matter is: we are alone. My Dad has no friends; getting out of the house for him is laborious and has to be reserved for days when he has doctors’ appointments. We have very little family. His side of the family is all dead and my mother died six years ago from cancer. Because of this, I find that I am his primary (and mostly sole) caregiver and his financial support.

I am swallowing my pride and asking for help. I am struggling to keep him fed and pay his medical bills, which will only get worse as we begin treatment and management of his cancer. His bank account is already overdrawn from paying previous medical bills and his social security simply isn’t enough to make ends meet. I am doing what I can, but I simply don’t make enough money to pay for everything.

Even if you can’t donate anything (and trust me, I totally get that), I would really appreciate it if you would help signal boost this.

Hi Doc i’m commiserating over the no Xena reboot too it’s such a shame and I hate it so much because this time right now is like the BEST time to do it. If they wait like another five years it won’t be the same. We’ll be burned out with Wonder Woman or whatever they give us. This is IT and they’ve thrwn it away. So I wanna ask like they want to KNOW, so how would YOU do it? If you had the job how would it get done?

This isn’t at ALL an alarming ask, so I’ve had to have a think.

There’s a need for resolve from the original ending, to please everyone and to reaffirm the importance of Xena and Gabrielle’s relationship. It’s the heart of the show, so start there. I would have liked to see a six-episode mini-series: set 15 years after Xena’s death, we see how Gabrielle fared, what her life is like, etc.  I like the idea of her returning to the Amazons to rebuild the nation. Nero is the evil emperor this time around.  SOMETHING HAPPENS and Xena returns and the first two of the six episodes are about this reunion, with a happy conclusion.  Lucy and Renee returning, of course.

The following four episodes would reiterate the soulmate theme as we move through the centuries, basically creating ‘uber’ stories (like the Xena Scrolls episode).  Visit them in the 19th century.  The 1920s, maybe.  Visit Janice and Mel again, in the 50s, this time.  Each of these episodes though, has to have a tie-in theme that will set us up for the new series.  The easiest thing I can think of is the chakram, how it disappears, reappears, etc.  Lucy and Renee play all these versions as well.

The final episode is set in a post-apocalyptic future, roughly two hundred years before the start of the new series, but in the same timeline.  This episode jump starts us into the new series, to take place in a society that isn’t the usual dystopian P-A, but a world that is rebuilding – so we have a ‘new’ Amazon nation, a ‘new’ Rome, etc – and a new Xena and Gabrielle.  The ‘look’ doesn’t have to be some wildly sci-fi business, but a mix of what we have seen before.

So, there is it, my take.  I’d like to read what others would have done.

date a selkie, but don’t hide her cloak. let her go home and visit her family now and then, knowing that she’ll come back and hang her seal cloak in the closet like she always does. trust is important.

The first time she lets the redhead take her home, she’s diligent about hiding her cloak. She folds it carefully against tears and rips and abrasions, and hides it in a sea cave whose entrance is concealed by the tide.

She does the same, the second and third and fourth times, careful, wary, mindful of her mother’s lessons. Remembers the way her mother’s hands had chafed on her soft cheeks, rough with cooking and cleaning for her fisherman husband, the way her mother’s peat-dark eyes had been tense and harsh with the lesson.

“Mind me, Niahm. Never let them find your cloak.”

The way her mother’s mouth had curved, a sickle of dissatisfaction and relief and envy, as she had escaped into the waves.

So she minds her mother’s lesson, and she takes care with her cloak.

Would that she had taken as much care with her heart.

The fifth time, she wears the cloak to the girl’s door, clutched about her throat, dripping along the darkened lanes.

She enters the home, welcomed with soft kisses and gentle touches and kindling passion. She drapes the cloak, artful in her carelessness, across an old wooden chair, the one that creaks and tilts slightly if you don’t sit just right.

When she wakes, in the wee hours of the morning, even before her lover, the cloak still rests, supple and dappled by the sea, on the back of the chair.

She frowns into the softening dawn, dons the cloak, and returns to the sea.

And again, the sixth time. And the seventh.

The eighth time, she finally breaks, prickling and hurt with longing, gripping a handful of russet hair in her hand, firm with emphasis.

“Surely you know what I am,” she says to her lover, the cool froth of sea foam and the call of gulls curling around her voice.

“Of course,” her lover responds, soft and tender in the dawnlight, throat arched willingly, pale as the inner whorls of a shell. “You taste of the sea,” the girl whispers, reverently.

She shakes her lover’s head gently, fingers tangled still in russet locks. “Why?” she demands. “Why won’t you keep me?”

A long silence that waits and fills, like a tidepool, stretches between them. Cool as a current. Deep as the Channel.

Her lover’s eyes are dark and tender. “Must I trap you to keep you, my heart? Is that the shape of love that you desire?”

She sinks into the thought, struck and stymied, remembering her mother’s harsh hands, her cold eyes. Her hand eases into russet waves, caresses where her grip had punished. Her lips press cool and damp as the sea against the arching curve of her lover’s shoulder. “What shape of love will you give to me?”

The answer is easy, quick, certain. “Myself. Only myself, whenever you should wish it. Your cloak by the door, your body in my bed, and the freedom to go, whenever you must. As long as you wish.”

It’s not an answer a fisherman could ever give, nor would think to.

The ninth time, she hangs her cloak by the door, draped in careful dappled folds next to a drying oilskin jacket.

BBC AMERICA’S NEW THRILLER KILLING EVE COMMENCES FILMING ACROSS EUROPE

bbcamerica:

Filming has commenced on BBC AMERICA’s all-new eight-part thriller, Killing Eve, penned by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and produced by Sid Gentle Films Ltd. Based on the ‘Villanelle’ novellas by Luke Jennings, Killing Eve follows two fiercely intelligent women – a psychopathic assassin and the woman charged with hunting her down. Starring Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy, Sideways) and Jodie Comer (The White Princess, Thirteen), the series – a combination of brutal mischief making and pathos – is filled with sharp humor, originality, and high stakes action. Killing Eve is filming on locations including Paris, Tuscany, Berlin, and London and will debut on BBC AMERICA in 2018.

Eve (Oh) is a bored, whip-smart security services operative whose desk-bound job doesn’t fulfill her fantasies of being a spy. Villanelle (Comer), is a talented killer who clings to the luxuries her violent job affords her. These two fierce women, equally obsessed with each other, will go head to head in an epic game of cat and mouse, toppling the typical spy-action thriller.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, writer, showrunner and executive producer, said: “I’m hugely excited to have started filming Killing Eve. It’s looking fantastic and our cast, led by the indomitable Sandra and Jodie, are to die for!”

This reads like the Debra Winger film, Black Widow, just leaving out the ‘marrying for money then killing the husband’ angle (which would be problematic today anyway) yet keeping the material traps and cat-and-mouse chase.

In Black Widow, an attraction was teasingly suggested, but never followed through – might this version show a little more bravery?
