Steven Moffat’s savage reply to the negative reactions of the new Doctor. (x)

#THE NOISE THAT JUST LEFT MY MOUTH. #STEVEN SLAY THEM ALL MOFFAT EVERYONE.

MOFFAT JUST BURIED THE NECKBEARDS ALIVE

Makes him sound good, but misogyny is a very real thing – and this is not how to address it.  I didn’t see ‘the same three’ posters, I saw hundreds and ongoing commentaries that made me cringe. One of the original Doctors, Peter Davison, is taking a lot of heat right now for his sexism, stating that with a female Doctor ‘boys won’t have a role model.’  This isn’t a joke to be brushed aside at a media event to gain applause.  I understand the need to minimise the trolls’ influence, but women live with this everyday, in various ways and we can’t brush it aside saying it doesn’t actually exist or undermine our tormentors with a casual flick of the wrist.  Doesn’t work like that.

He had an opportunity to address the real damage of sexism, trolling and misogyny and missed it in favour of immediate and easy praise.

Try Googling this first “(country) find your representative”

What’s a good template to use if you have anxiety?

Perhaps a simple non-partisan statement like “as my representative, I would like you to take urgent and concrete steps to expedite the rescue of children caught up in Syria’s violence.”

Stand up for these innocent babies. Write to your political representative. Demand an immediate rescue.

im honestly just like furious at the ideas that pervade media & everything that is so layered so im gonna fuck up talking abt it but it’s like this dumb violent cycle that produces maybe two kinds of coming out stories: 1, kid struggles w sexuality, feels shitty abt it, tries hard to be “”“normal”“”, some one is like babe ur valid & everything is healed, & 2, kid comes out & isn’t accepted for it & holds their head high & struggles through it. & like it’s so pervasive it doesn’t give kids a chance to like not be aWare of this shit. not be aware that as queer kids ur gonna have to grovel & beg at least once in ur life for someone to accept u & u know the fuck what??? it’s bullshit. it’s bullshit & i honestly feel like i’ve been punched every time my family says the most minor homophobic shit & then i feel BAD abt that bc im being “”“too sensitive”“” but like it’s not one comment it’s this sharp little reminder that the next time i come face to face w this person, they might know & they might despise me & it unsettles u in a very deep horrifying way bc ur self perception is doubled or cleaved in two bc u are one person who u know & u are one person they know & u have to be so careful all the time w what u project & what u say & it bleeds into our communities w near desperation like we make joking “touch starved” posts but i can’t rmbr the last time someone hugged me who knows that im queer & there’s a difference, there’s an ease abt being hugged by someone who Knows who u are.

& the first coming out story where someone not queer tells them that they’re valid & everything is healed Isn’t Real & u grow up thinking if i can get this one person to tell me im okay, if this person can tell me im valid & all that, then i will be okay & u latch onto all these outside influences to be okay, to be safe & u don’t get to develop that voice inside that is certain abt it. it always depends on an others view of u. & the second kind of coming out where the kid Struggles like congrats mate this cements the fear that gay life is a constant struggle. in a way i think is almost worse, it can sometimes stage this suffering as smth noble, as an “i’ll prove them wrong one day” kind of thing & i hate it i Hate it. ppl don’t have to struggle to be worthy of respect, of being treated well, this shouldn’t be the lesson we are taught!!

anyway that’s a rant it’s stupid it’s all been said before I’ll delete it later im just sad

With @tumblingsnail, please don’t delete.  There is nothing stupid here, just honesty and this kind of insight is what often lacks in discussing these stories. We see these struggles play out online, with discussions about representation, and it is so frustrating and heartbreaking to see the misinformation and doubt and sneer of the crowd that doesn’t care to learn.

Thanks as always for sharing your thoughts with us.

I am very salty with tumblr right now. Very salty.

Lexa’s pout is NSFW. Maybe Tumblr got it right after all.

Lexa’s pout is DEFINITELY NSFW, let’s be real 👀

Also NSFW? The way she caresses a blade.

Sweaty Lexa is also very NSFW

Her cocky smirky smirk is so NSFW that the European Parliament passed a law in 2016 prohibiting anyone from looking at it between the hours of 9am and 5pm due to the lost productivity and the potentially devastating effect it might have on the EU economy.

Sassy Lexa is so NSFW that it only appears on tumblr with every new moon. We are only allowed to feast our eyes upon this hotness as a lunar cycle begins.

Lexa’s jawline is so NSFW that she actually took out five of the nine noviciates at her Conclave simply by turning her head.

Open Coat Lexa doesn’t even register on the NSFW scale. Legend has it, the scale broke when she was brought into the world, and hasn’t truly been fixed since.

Lexa climbing steps is so NSFW that a sex riot once broke out during a council meeting while her back was turned.

Indra’s still mentally scarred by the incident.

Dual Sword Lexa, slicing and dicing her way through attackers is so extremely NSFW that there has been a national holiday announced (Put in place by one Thirsty Wanheda who wants everyone to bask in the glory that is her wife).

Lexa’s beautiful mane is so NSFW that it introduced a new term into the Trigedasleng lexicon: traises fapouva (hair porn).

Indeed, Lexa’s hair is so widely admired that it’s considered ‘The Rachel’ of 22nd Century post-apocalyptic Earth. Much copied, but few can pull it off with the same verve as Heda.

Lexa is so NSWF that anytime she trains, they have to close down the training grounds in a two mile radius, due to thirsty fangirls and boys trying to sneak a peek of their Heda and holding up all the traffic and trade in Polis.

The vendors all find it terribly inconvenient- but they don’t complain, because Heda would have their head-as.

Lexa’s so NSFW that her kicking people off the balcony of her tower is both a method of executive stress relief and an extreme form of BDSM practice. Visitors to Polis are so eager to feel the force of Lexa’s drop-kick that they line up around the block to experience it for themselves. It’s rated the number 1 tourist attraction in Polis by Trip Advisor.

Fortunately, there’s a strategically placed hay cart in the marketplace below so they can also fulfil any Assassin’s Creed ‘leap of faith’ fantasies.

Really though, Lexa is so extremely NSFW that Clarke keeps her locked away in the tower. In her bedroom. Naked. In bed. All day long. For the sake of her (their) people.

I hate what inspired this.

I love what inspired this.

I love that I hate that I love what inspired this.

Fuck you, Tumblr.  I love you.

Gay Tumblr: we didn’t get our way, this is homophobic!

Kiddos, if hearing that your ship of choice isn’t going to be canon is homophobia, then you live in privilege. If that’s the worst thing you can experience, then you’re doing pretty well.

Calm the fuck down. Queerbaiting involves actively seeking out a queer audience and trying to covet them by promising queer relationships.

This is literally the opposite of that. They’re telling you upfront what to expect.

This isn’t what the outrage was about.

This didn’t start over fans being whingey over their ship not being canon – it was an actor making fun of them for thinking their ship was anything but ‘friendship’ in the first place.  It was the mocking sing-along he led with the cast (save McGrath who looked embarrassed and later tried to turn it around) that made them look homophobic and mean. They were rightly called out for it. Not for queerbaiting – for being rude and mean-spirited toward a fandom that hardly ever sees representation (even if it was a spontaneous act – the joke was at other people’s expense).  Imagine being a 12 year old Supercorp fan seeing your heroes making fun of you for thinking Kara and Lena could ever be together.  No one needs that.  And Jordan only made it worse when he issued an ‘apology’ that made himself out to be a victim.

This was about the attitude and manners of so-called allies – it was hurtful.

If there were people asking for SC to be canon – whinging about it, even – they didn’t deserve to be publicly humiliated over it.  We get around 1% of the representation out there – and we’re made fun of in the bargain?  They could have used the moment as an opportunity to discuss representation and what it means (as McGrath tried to do) – I guess it was easier to just make fun of it.

did you see what happened at comic con? i’m super bummed. it just feels like for every step we take forward in representation we take two steps back. the least they can do is respect us

unicyclehippo:

the song shit that jeremy et al did? i saw it. im annoyed bc of the callous treatment of queer audience but i don’t rly invest in actors anymore so im not super interested in it. tbh i just feel like we need to stop praising cishet actors & writers for their “tolerance” of queer interaction & straight up dump them for this shit like stop giving these stories the power to engulf us bc we deserve better & there are ppl out there who are doing great shit & they’re the ones who deserve & need our love & attention

anywho enjoy the rest of sdcc make it queer fam ✌️😘

Looks like someone has decided ADC should always look like a reckless Hollywood ingenue from a sordid 40s or 50s noir, one step ahead of a scandal sheet about her and some third-tier mobster (while her fans dream of her with the mobster’s nubile, hard-drinking bombshell blonde daughter).

What? Trans people are 0.03% ish of the population, of course most tv show characters won’t be trans? Don’t we have bigger things to worry about?

the point they’re getting at isn’t just that there’s no representation, is the type of representation. the sidekick, the comedic relief, nothing of substance. and that impacts people’s perception of LGBT+ people.

Okay, but I just don’t see how that is important right now. I see way more activism like this than people focusing on the places where people are being driven from their countries, killed, d y I n g. We’re in an administration right now where trans people’s health care is at risk. We both know how bad that would be if transitioning wasn’t covered under any insurance or not deemed medically necessary. Yet people are advocating for tv shows? The perception of LGBT people? Idk man, like there’s nothing wrong with that, I just disagree that it has any significance

i completely get where you’re coming from, but how do you think we’re going to solve the bigger problems? Representation is where it starts. People vote for what/who they want. If people who aren’t really familiar with the trans community only see trans people as hookers, prostitutes, sassy, rude, stereotypical, or not at all, do you think they are going to care if trans people have healthcare or not? Starting with how people perceive the community is VERY important. We need to show them correct facts, statistics, accurate representation, and stories about real trans people. We have to start making people see trans people as human beings before they can start being treated like one. It’s messed up, but that’s how it is.

And on another note, it is extremely important to have good trans representation, not just to forward the movement, but because young people who are scared to come out/transition, still trying to figure themselves out, and want to know that there are others like them can find solace in the characters on TV.

And about your comment in how there are bigger, badder problems going on elsewhere in the world, you do realize people can care about several different problems at once right? Hell, I can advocate for trans rights, women’s rights, men’s rights, the end of child marriage in the middle east, minimum wage, and gender equality… the list goes on and on and on

Empathy matters.

Despite being a liberal queer woman who ostensibly supported the trans community, I still held lots of deeply transphobic beliefs until my husband started his transition. I’d never met a trans person before or seen one on TV who wasn’t vilified. Seeing him transition while knowing him as a person is what showed me my many mistakes. (And there are more to discover, I’m sure.)

Trans people are a tiny segment of the population. Not everyone is going to know a trans person, or they might not know they know one, because many trans people are closeted for their own safety. That’s where representation comes in. TV and media can ‘introduce’ trans people to the cis population at large. Even if they’re fictional, it helps. Once we see trans people as relatable human beings, most of us will start to care about them.

This applies to many different marginalized groups, by the way. I didn’t know a single lesbian, bi, or queer woman growing up. Not one. The only time I saw women like me was on television and in books, and even those representations were usually bleak. They were the only role models I had, and the only role models my straight, cis extended family had when they stepped in to support me when my parents wouldn’t.

If we want cis/straight/etc. people to empathize, to become activists on our behalf and vote for our safety and protection, they have to know who we are first.
