growing up autistic / growing up gaslit

I.

this is the first lesson you learn:
you are always wrong.

there is no electric hum buzzing through the air.
there is no stinging bite to the sweetness of the mango.
there is no bitter metallic tang to the water.

there is no cruelty in their laughter, no ambiguity in the instructions, no reason to be upset.
there is no bitter aftertaste to your sweet tea, nothing scratchy about your blanket.

the lamps glow steadily. they do not falter.

II.

this is the second lesson you learn:
you are never right.

you are childish, gullible, overly prone to tears.
you are pedantic, combative, deliberately obtuse.
you are lazy, unreliable, never on time.

you’re always making up excuses, rudely interrupting, stepping on people’s shoes.
you’re always trying to get attention, never thinking about anyone else, selfish through and through.

it’s you that’s the problem. the lamps are fine.

III.

this is the third lesson you learn:
you must always give in.

mother knows best. father knows best.
doctor knows best. teacher knows best.
this is the proper path. do not go astray.

listen to your elders, respect your betters, accept what’s given to you as your due.
bow to the wisdom of experience, the education of the professional, the clarity of an external point of view.

what do you know about lamps, anyway?

Painful and accurate, even long since grown up.

Found myself angry today at the umpteenth reblog of a post that basically reduced the good and honourable deeds of the Clexa fandom into egotistical bragging rights over the number of notes they have on their posts vs. BeIIarke fans. The post(s) was a pile-on of bludgeoning a blarke in question with so many ‘Look! We’ve got more than you! You could never! Neener Neener Neener’ moments it was absurd and ugly, from the beginning.

They reduced the good and honourable deeds of the Clexa fandom into weapons for a shipping war.  Into ego-driven bragging.  Into a shallow pursuit of putting one over on a fandom so hated that the poison is clearly running both ways.

Let’s get this clear: the Clexa fandom has NOTHING to prove to anyone, ever.

If you’re going to take the bait over everyone who says ‘we’re better than you’ or ‘our ship is better than your ship’ or whatever BS someone pulled, if you think everything this fandom did in the name of better representation and charity is just so a handful can have a field day using it to bash and smash other human beings (no matter who they are or what they do) in a juvenile display of Social Superiority – you’ve lost the thread.  If this is just about numbers, you need to recognise that no matter how many ‘notes’ or ‘views’ or ‘likes’ you have, this does not equate to ‘we’re better than you.’  If it did, various Youtubers wouldn’t be reviled human beings.  More equals better is a fallacy.  A humiliating one, at that.

It’s also beyond the point.

The good and noble deeds of the Clexa fandom – shifting an entire industry toward better representation, raising money for a school and other charities – were not done in order to bludgeon others with the data. They were and are done, hopefully, in selfless service to others, to improve our world and our community. No one has any right to use those good things for their own personal vendetta.

The show is coming back, the cons are on and dragging is going to happen. We can have fun with that without turning it into bloody target practice.  Stop caring what any blarke thinks. If they are trying to reach into your space – block them. Don’t engage, block them. Ignore. Rise above.

I was told once that the best revenge is to live well.  We have nothing to prove.  NOTHING.

Because if we’re not building up, making things better for ourselves, our community, for others – what are we doing?

If you’re not from Australia you probably haven’t heard this but it’s very important.

Today The Guardian released a cache of files called The Nauru Files.

This contains 2,000 reports from Australia’s detention centres which detail the abuse, self harm, mental illness and many terrible things that are happening to asylum seekers who come to Australia in hope of a better life but are instead detained offshore in conditions that violate human rights.

If you do read them, even shortened versions, prepare to be disgusted and shocked.

This is physical evidence that the Australian government is sitting back while they detain children and imprison asylum seekers while subjecting them to torturous conditions and every kind of abuse.

Don’t let The Nauru Files be forgotten or covered up.

Don’t let the people in Australia’s offshore detention’s centre be forgotten.

It’s illegal here to even speak about what happens on these islands so that another country has been able to get these should really help raise these issues amongst the general public.

These files were leaked by someone involved in the system at Nauru (like, ofc) to the Guardian and since then, multiple doctors social workers etc have said “yeah we know but we couldn’t tell you” because it’s i l l e g a l for them to do so. All crimes that take place there are considered matters for the local police, so the Aus govt is washing their hands of it and saying “these are just allegations” like … The reports are horrible but this deserves a lot of attention there are 49 children in detention on Nauru living in squalor being tortured right this second
