I just want to call your attention to this. One year later. Two seasons less. And the tendency is for the gap to keep growing.

keep writing, cl writers

The funny thing is that if you search the fics in the whole 100 category by kudos and hits, the first page (AT LEAST) will be all Clexa fics. The most popular Bellarke fic only has 4k kudos, which at least 80 clexa fics have surpassed. Hell the gap between the most popular Clexa fic by kudos and the Bellarke one is literally 16k kudos. Point is….they might write a lot, but there’s not much to show for in terms of readership, hits, length or quality compared to the Clexa fandom. Like so many other things, the Clexa fandom is a beast when it comes to fanfiction. If this is us with only one season of our ship and a year after Lexa’s death, imagine what it would be like if she were still alive.

If you do a ‘clarke-lexa’ search, 9603 works come up.

From what I can tell, all the fiction under this tag is Clexa or crossovers with Clexa.

So much fiction is also posted elsewhere (on Tumblr, for example, like @coeurdastronaute – her stories alone would add dozens more to this list) – a quick ‘Clexa’ search on ff.net brings up about 900 stories, but there could be more organised under a different tag.

do you think it was queerbaiting again tho? like when Eliza was talking about Clarke morning Lexa n keepin the flame? that was a total lie too since she gave it up! gave it up to roan who shae DID save from a bullet shot!

I’m a bit conflicted on the queerbaiting issue this time around. I do think people like ET genuinely wanted to give the fans something, but it’s just too late and it’s over and they know it.  I do feel a little disgust at the show producers even discussing her, for the two-second mention she gets, because they’ve worked pretty hard to erase her (like the montage, for example).  For all the good it’s done, Lexa need never have existed.

I don’t know about the flame, R oan living was already well-known (that he survived a bullet to his chest, in pretty much the exact same spot Lexa was shot is kind of…tacky).  Again, I just think it’s pointless hanging on to this show if you’re a Clexa fan.  It’s really over and I really don’t think she’ll be brought up again, certainly not in anyway that would matter to anything and I feel awful for the fans who are sharing those gifs, I think it just adds to their hurt.

I do hope the Clexa (and related) fandoms keep making noise for minority characters and discrimination in their portrayals – and, more importantly, perhaps, make noise for the real life nightmares were are experiencing.  We need to get together and be warriors for our people and our planet.  A new fight is just beginning.

Hi! What do you think is the current state of the Clexa fandom? so many people are saying its dying out which worries me a little. What do you think?

Sorry I’m late on this reply, but have had to give this a think.

I don’t know.  I really don’t know.  All I can say is, it’s not going to last, not the way it has been, at its height, earlier this year.  It just won’t.  Fans will grow, find something else and move on, eventually.  You may always love it, revere it, hold it dear, but at some point, ten years will have passed and you’ll realise that you haven’t thought about them at all. That’s the reality of it.

I do think ‘Clexa’ as a fandom is always going to be a ‘thing,’ even if just a politicised sense, as a beginning of a movement to change discriminatory practices in telly writing.  Whenever you see t1oo mentioned, ‘Clexa’ and Lexa will likely be mentioned as well.

Since most of the fans are still very young and not all of them have migrated elsewhere (to Supergirl or Wynonna Earp or what-have-you), and since there is still a lingering lack of closure for so many, I don’t see it ‘dying out’ too quickly. Once the show ends, removing any possibility of formal closure, possibly.

But there’s something to the way the fans have developed these characters so far beyond what the show could ever have done.  An echo of Clexa will always show up now and again (just as they are an echo of Xena/Gabrielle, et al).

damneliza:

isn’t it funny how the clexa fandom was traumatized by a group of tone deaf writers and turned their pain into something positive by raising awareness for lgbt rep in the media and donated over $100k to the trevor project but yet the clexa fandom is demonized on tumblr and not the writers themselves?

funny…how…with social activism…the public..often turns against the protesters……rather than the crux of the problem

Homophobia, internalised misogyny and rape culture politics in action.  So many cultural issues came into play over this.

I hope someone writes a book about all it one day.
