Help Isla

This fundraiser has only 16 days left and is pretty far from their goal.

Can we signal boost this again and see if we can get them a little closer?

I’ve had family go through this and I can tell you how heartbreaking, frustrating and frightening it is to live with every day.  It doesn’t always have a happy ending. The more and better help you have, the better are the chances.

Let’s help this little girl and her family have a better chance and happy ending.

Please help 3 year old Isla get well so she can go to school

The Story

As some of you may know, I am deeply involved in a project on the Island of Koh Tao, in Thailand. Many of you helped me raise an amazing amount of money for my Not For Profit School, Koh Tao International Primary. There is however, one little girl that is missing from the school and now that she is old enough, we would really love her to join. Unfortunately, she is very sick and hasn’t been able to live on the island for a long time.

Isla was still 2 years old when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in March 2016. After 8 months of torturous procedures and chemotherapy, baby Isla was in remission Dec 2016, but this only lasted 10 weeks. Her parents, Andrea and Jim had to face it all over again. Isla’s older sister, Lulu, had to be sent to New Zealand to be with family, as it had become impossible to live a normal life. How do you tell a 3-year old that they have to go through all of that again?

I asked Jim what his expenses were like. I thought I would just quote him here, because there is no eloquent way to put it:

“Our Insurance covers us for Inpatient… Outpatient we have to pay everything… All tests, transfusions & consultations. A blood transfusion is 47,000THB (US$1,342) a transfusion! Sometimes she needs 2 a week for a month. A Consultation is 8,000THB (US$228) once a week & post chemo toxicology test was 50,000THB (US$1,427)… The donor for the stem cell test is 10,000THB (US$285.50) a test, just to find the appropriate donor- we needed 3… The donor op is 10,000Euro (US$10,556) plus costs for inpatient fee… Heaps of vitamin supplements, health food supplements… Other costly factors not considered- Organic only produce fruit & veg, organic cotton clothing & natural cleaning products…We haven’t had an income for a year now & had to pay for Lulus school fees, rent in Samui & Bangkok we’ve spent 2.5million THB (US$71,408) from our savings & another 1.5m THB (US$42,844) in charitable contributions…”

It is a huge amount of money and the doctors have said that the next 12 months could reach the US$100,000 mark in medical expenses alone. It is getting increasingly difficult for Isla’s parents to focus on their daughter while they have this financial burden hanging over their heads. The confronting truth is though, by donating any sum of money, big or small, you are contributing to treatments that could save Isla’s life.

We have teamed up with Jo Garfein, co-founder and executive director of Cancer Gets LOST. Jo and I strongly believe in channeling fans toward the greater good, and in the power of positivity in fan communities. I have signed (and some of The 100 co-stars) some merchandise to raise money for Isla. 100%of the proceeds will be donated to this fundraiser! You can find the AUCTION LINKS BELOW.

I’m reaching out to you all once more for help. Any small amount of money you can spare could change her life and the life of her family. I want Isla at school where she belongs, please help me make it happen.

Love EJ

here is the phenomenal jo “cancer gets LOST” garfein’s description of this charity auction:

“Over the last few years, I’ve had the great pleasure of getting to know Eliza Taylor (The 100) while working together on charitable endeavors. We both strongly believe in channeling fans toward the greater good, and in the power of positivity in fan communities. Together, we came up with the idea for this fundraising auction after she told me about her little 3 year-old friend Isla, who is battling leukemia (Eliza runs the non-profit school Koh Tao International Primary in Thailand, where she became close to Isla and her family). So it is an honor to host this small auction, and the least I could do to help try and make a difference for this family.”

We do!

swan-heda:

Every now and then I feel a slight pang in my heart when I think about Eliza Taylor and her place in the aftermath of The 100 fallout. She was so proud of playing a character like Clarke Griffin and so proud to be on such an interesting and progressive show. She probably still is proud to some extent, which she should be because it seems like she pours her heart and soul into her work and for that she should be very proud. But the current state of the show and negativity surrounding it must really break her heart. I feel bad that a show that was once highly praised is now blacklisted by so many, including a large majority of its fanbase, popular news sites and critics. No, I do not feel bad for the show or its creators – fuck them and the disgusting horrible shit they pulled and the way they handled it (except for Javi, who took the time to truly listen when it mattered). I feel bad for Eliza, who had no say in where the story was taken and is probably extremely disappointed in both the direction the show took and by the fact that she was a part of something that had such a negative impact on so many people’s lives. I feel bad that a majority of the show’s remaining fans are so disrespectful to her and go out of their way to post inappropriate and mean things about her (and to her) on social media. I feel bad that a cloud of negative energy will continue to surround her as long as she is starring in that show, regardless if that negative energy is directed at her or if she’s just caught in the crosshairs. I’m projecting here as I obviously don’t know her personally, but it seems like she is someone who truly cares about her work and her fans, and it must be awful to put up with all of the crap she probably has to put up with on a daily basis. Yes, I know she’s an actress and she gets paid well for it, but it can’t be that much fun anymore to be the face of a blacklisted and problematic show. I want to thank Eliza for being so honest and sincere in her interactions with her fans, for being such a beacon of light and positive energy for so many, and for always going above and beyond to make others feel important and their voices heard. Stay awesome Eliza. Stay proud. And stay you.

Yes. Sharing this with my anons in particular.  Read.
