Anti-Muslim fliers affiliated with the American Vanguard, a white nationalist organization, have appeared on college campuses nationwide.
Students from the University of Texas at Austin, University of Central Florida and Rutgers University tweeted photos of a flier reading “Imagine A Muslim-Free America.“
The flier was in black and white with a silhouette of the Twin Towers depicted in the background. American Vanguard’s Texas group has taken credit for the posters at UT Austin.
The University of Texas at Austin released a statement on Tumblr notifying students that the fliers were removed since it was defacing the campus property.
Sarah Khan, a senior at the University of Texas, expressed frustration at the university’s response, noting that it did not explicitly condemn the fliers nor did it offer support or resources to students who felt affected by the incident. Read more (2/14/17 12:45 PM)

Fam…let me tell you bout Poland.
Let me tell you about how the entire rest of Europe sat ack and watched the invasion of Poland because they thought it would be “improper” to send military aid. How they were unwilling to enforce the treaties that Germany was breaking, because that would make them “just as bad.” They sat back and wrote strongly worded letters while fascists grew in power because they didn’t want to dirty their hands. They thought reasonable discussion and politics would be enough to stop a fascist dictator from rising to power.
Spoiler alert: it wasn’t enough.
like yes, people literally did try that argument then too.
Everywhere there’s fascists there are fascist apologists hiding under the guise of pacifism, ready to enable their shit and demonize resistance.
No one knows better than Germany. Pay attention. Pass it on.
I’m wondering now if it’s just been a joke for too many people for too long? They just can’t believe it. Can’t take it seriously.
A hard lesson is coming. Again.
First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can’t agree with your methods of direct action;” who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a “more convenient season.“ Shallow understanding from people of goodwill is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.

How disappointed and yet how not surprised would he be.
There can be no neutrality on this. No normalising of fascism.
On my TL, just now: a video of a man throwing a raccoon with anger and violence down a flight of stairs. The comments: complimentary of the man, laughing at the situation (he was, allegedly, defending the dog he had left outside).
The video was shared from a white nationalists’ tumblr page. His entire tumblr is about ‘god freedom and everything usa.’ Lots of gun memes, fake news, the repetition of ‘alt-right misinformation’ about everything from whether Obama is Muslim to the reality of climate change. Hate for trans people. Hate for immigrants. Dump supporter.
I’m not sure those commenting on this were aware, but it was appalling to think that ANYONE found this funny and decided to share it. But this is how some awful people slink into the cracks and become ‘normal.’ Their sarcasm is a disguise for not having a stronger argument to make. Everything is oppositional to what they hate, and they don’t have to use racist or nationalist terminology to put their point across. They don’t always have to post such things. Sometimes they post things that seem harmless. Sometimes they disguise their hate as ‘humour.’ It’s a good lure. They believe what they’re selling.
I’m certainly not sharing this post, but if you come across it, or anything similar – look where it came from. Look at the user who posted it. Make sure you’re not sharing something that benefits who and what they are. If it doesn’t matter to you, if that kind of awful behaviour, without morality, appeals to you, unfollow me now.
This ‘article’ in the Guardian, Can Donald Trump save Twitter? Is exactly what we are talking about when we talk about media needing to drop its neutrality, its need to entertain and dumb-down in order to sell itself.
Twitter needs to ban Trump and his ilk from their platform. Would you give Hitler your global microphone? One thing this story points out is how much Dump relies on Twitter to play his dangerous game. Without it, he loses immediate focus and the ability to spread his sickening cult of personality.
Media neutrality – social and otherwise – is choking us. Getting past their greed, fear and lack of insight is a challenge we shouldn’t have.
