Watch One Day at a Time on Netflix. 4 episodes in the next few days. 2 hours total.
For real though. We have been blessed with a glorious show that has:
fleshed-out, not-baiting representation of various types
sharp, specific writing that addresses Current Issues in effective and entertaining ways
comedy that for the most part does not “punch down” / perpetuate oppression
truly stunning acting
KEGOT-winner and all-around deity Rita Moreno (KEGOT = Kennedy Center Honor, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards)
the unbelievable Justina Machado who should, and hopefully will, win all the awards for her performances in this show
and more ~
Help us keep this show alive and get a season 3 renewal! One Day at a Time on Netflix is perfect for Gal/Pal/Valentine’s day and for every other day of every week forever. It’s one of the easiest, most enjoyable forms of activism you can do, imo. And please also spread the word!!
I feel for everyone on this. I know you want it. I’d watch if it happened, but it won’t and here’s why:
This boils down to business relationships. Netflix already has a business relationship with The CW. So does CBS (co-owner). If Netflix thought for a hot second that a Grounder’s spinoff was doable, it would go through the hierarchy at WB/CW, first. If JR has legal rights (as their creator), he gets a say and he will get credit. There’s no avoiding it. If they did a spinoff, it would be entirely under their terms (their money). They’d deny even having seen the fan trailer. They’d keep far away from any fan ideas to avoid any legal concerns of credit.
Keep in mind, too, back in 2016, JR talked about writing an origin story (book) for the Grounders. This would be a complete conflict with a fan-centred project. He has the business relationship with the networks. His ideas would be the ones the spinoff is based upon (whether this book ever happens, who knows – his career is likely to see a slump after t100 is cancelled).
As far as ADC is concerned, this would be a backward move for her. The CW is unlikely to do any sort of spinoff (least of all something to please a fandom that thoroughly humiliated them), and the 100′s ratings suggest it faces cancellation, soon. ‘Lexa’ is a big taboo for that network now. The only way I can see ADC returning, albeit briefly, is if she is invited back for some flashback material or something in the finale, if warranted (like Clarke obtaining the flame). I’m sure lots of little boxes would need to be ticked off before she’d agree to it. Is this likely? No idea.
What might be likely is, a few years from now, if someone decides on a reboot. Someone with some vision who recognises what failed before and where it could be improved and decides to make ‘Clexa’ a proper part of the show. That could even be one of you. Even so, JR could still get some sort of credit.
I love this fandom, how rich and creative it can be, and I wish everyone on this project well and hope they find their way to applying their gifts to even greater things and, one day, taking over the industry.
CBS: Hey let’s make a new Star Trek show and put women of color in the lead roles!
Star Trek fans: Oh! That sounds really cool!
Also CBS: Let’s put it on our overpriced streaming service so the fewest amount of people possible watch it
Star Trek fans:
This is the network that declared Sarah Shahi’s Nancy Drew ‘too female,’ then proceeded to present an all-male led lineup of shows.
Now it wants US audiences to pay for this privilege and, so you know, if you choose to do so, you’ll still have adverts running through it (unless you want to pay for a higher tier).
The conversations I’ve seen on Twitter and elsewhere suggest many fans are unhappy about this and do not want to pay the extra fee, when they are already paying for Netflix (who have the rights to stream the show abroad) or Hulu or whatever else.
I read a Salon article earlier that suggested CBS does want this show to succeed, else why give it a prime Sunday slot – but the author missed a point. That Sunday slot won’t be on their main (male-centric) network. It won’t be seen by this audience, unless they choose to pay for it – and who would choose to pay for stuff you get to see for free anyway, or is already available through a streaming service you already have?
Disney is planning something like this, too, and if everyone jumps on their individual streaming programme wagons, they will effectively lock out millions of potential viewers who cannot afford multiple services.
Once again, only the elite benefit.
It renders the hopeful, post-capitalist message of Star Trek completely useless.
Death doesn’t let you say goodbye. 2 hour finale episode in the works. Tell your cluster.
This wasn’t just a TV show, this was the most diverse show around. This was the best LGBT representation we have ever had in a programme, and holy fuck did we make noise when it was cancelled. Sometimes that noise pays off 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
Thank you for being a part of our journey. Sensates forever.
WHHHHHHHHHY???? I am so sad that this awesome and diverse show has been cancelled……& on the first day of pride month?! The LGBT community deserves to have TV programmes that portray us and our relationships in a positive way. We are so starved of content and Sense8 was a bright, shining, in your face rainbow, surrounded by a sea of heteronormativity. FUCK YOU NETFLIX
Alright kru can you RT this post and give it likes? We lose nothing doing this y’all. Keep fighting for our girls and our ship kru.
A genius loner, recruited by MI6 to surveill a white supremacists org at a European university, finds deeper, international connections that lead her on a wild chase around the world into the heart of a political/corporate collective that seeks to undermine democracy in favour of profit and control – through any means necessary.
Alright, guys. Netflix says it’s taking Xena: Warrior Princess down on Dec 31. So just in case you are about to miss the boat and not experience this show’s feminist and queer majesty, please just take the time to watch a handful of the best episodes of this show. Be prepared for hardcore 90′s camp, especially during fight scenes. And be ready to have a lot more feelings than you thought you were going to have. It’s ontologically unstable… basically everything is unrealistic, except characters’ emotions and development, which are sublime.
If you can only watch three, go for “Here She Comes, Miss Amphipolis,” “One Against An Army,” and “Who’s Gurkhan?”
Here my personal list of 10 episodes you should see:
1) Season One, The Greater Good:
I love the range in this episode. Goofy as all hell. Then deeply serious and riveting. Back and forth. So many times in one episode. Gabrielle matures a lot in this one episode. Xena softens a lot in this one episode. And this is when Xena and Gabrielle’s relationship really begins to grow solid.
2) Season One, Callisto:
Here you see the main theme of the show at its very finest. Xena’s past atrocities as a warlord created the perfect super villain (who is played by a freaking genius who teaches yoga and understands how to act with her entire body). The fire scene is majesty. The ladder fighting scene is just ridiculous.
3) Season Two: Return of Callisto:
Just… trust that Gabrielle’s marriage isn’t going to last and don’t get too upset about it.
4) Season Two, Intimate Stranger:
Who doesn’t love a good body switch?
5) Season Two, Here She Comes, Miss Amphipolis
Xena goes undercover to protect beauty contestants. And feminism happens. Also Xena checks her cis privilege.
6 and 7) Destiny and The Quest
Xena dies. Xena decides she’s too gay to stay dead. They slip a kiss past the 90′s censors in a glorious slight of hand.
8) Season Three, One Against An Army
Just a classic episode with no frills. Appropriates history. Xena fights for light 20 minute straight. And there are so many feels between Xena and Gabrielle in between.
9) Season Six, Who’s Gurkhan?
Another classic episode of this show. Appropriates a Biblical story. Makes it feminist as hell. Xena’s past evil makes her the ultimate nemesis for evil. Also, there’s a lot of sexy dancing. And a pretty important arm brush.
10) Season Six, When Fates Collide
This show loves AU’s. The Xenaverse’s version of the balcony scene. Also sweet and long-suffering Gabrielle straight up aggro burns the world, because she doesn’t get to be with Xena in this one and that is just not okay at all.
Bonus Eps:
If you like the more serious stuff: Season, Is There A Doctor In The House? and Season Two, The Price
If you like the funny stuff: Season One, Warrior Princess and Season Two, Warrior… Princess… Tramp
All this and A Day in the Life is essential. Might be one of the best hours of television, period. Season 4 was when the idea of Xena and Gabrielle being soulmates was instilled and Ides of March is a brilliant culmination of all the show’s potential (the scene between Xena and Gabrielle in prison is one of the most beautiful of the entire series).
Of course, The Debt, parts 1 & 2, is probably the show’s shining cinematic moment.
