Interesting.

Oh how we cling to hope.

I want to believe they learned their lesson after the Great Cophine Fandom Mutiny of ‘15, but I can also totally see them going, “They’re probably just pissed about *how* we killed Delphine. Let’s bring her back so we can kill her again, only this time it’ll be way more dramatic. That’ll make ‘em happy.”

It’s not helping that last night… LAST NIGHT while catching a one hour tv show on Space Channel (the only Canadian channel that airs OB), they played the current teaser at every commercial break. Seeing Cosima and hearing ‘SACRIFICE” repeatedly isn’t helping my fragile Cophine heart.

I seriously don’t think Cophine together will happen in the end. Either one of them dies or they are just torn forever apart somehow.

Hold. Me.

me: Surely they know better. Surely.

also me: These are TV producers we’re talking about. Never assume they know what the fuck they’re doing.

also also me: They’ll ruin it just to hurt you. Because they hate you. You specifically, Sean Gilroy.

They’ll probably fuck it up. My only consolation is that the Supercorp shippers on my dash have shown me that canon can be aggressively ignored.

At this point? If they don’t put them together at the end… They’re dumb.

I mean some things are easy to see coming (Helena will die, her babies will go to Donnie and Alison – who will certainly live and face no consequences for their drug ring) but… Eh.

I want to trust them but I’ve learnt that can leave a nasty taste in your mouth when you’re betrayed. I want them to end them well. I want them to give us at least one happy storyline conclusion. We deserve it. The characters deserve it. There’s such a huge part of this fandom that have been monumentally affected by Cophine and to have them end negatively would be such a kick in the gut.

After they made a ‘thing’ of Delphine’s ‘death,’ as *the* cliffhanger, after they mocked fans’ pain with their ‘in memoriam’ video, after their own tweets of ‘haha, showed ya’ when Delphine turned up alive – they had better NOT pull some BS and kill them off AGAIN.  They’ve seen the fury of the Clexa fandom and how angry OB fans were at Delphine’s assumed demise – it wasn’t pretty.  They’d be foolish to play that again – especially since, within the narrative, how would Delphine or Cosima’s death signify anything but waste?

And Helena better not die, either.  The only one pushing toward death is Rachel.

trylonandperisphere:

Orphan Black clones on The Great (Canadian?) Bake-Off:

Sarah: Puts booze in everything, partly because she wants to and partly because she knows Mary Berry will like it.  Fucked Paul Hollywood one time.

Cosima:  Tries to use very precise scientific baking methods, but somehow always ends up with “magic” brownies.

Rachel:  Creates large, modern, abstract, and disturbingly sharp sugar showpieces to put on all her challenges, but someone always knocks them over and she sweeps everything off her cooking station in a fit,

Helena: Throws random ingredients into the mix to see what happens.  Making cupcake?  Why not add nachos, chopped ham and leetle pixy stix?  All her creations are disgusting, but the judges are afraid to vote her off.  Regularly eats all of her dough before it’s baked.

Tony: Makes one of two things for every challenge: pretzels or beer bread.

Alison: THE WINNER. (Even though she sweats every time she sees Paul Hollywood and struggles not to criticize everyone while being interviewed.)

Krystal: Totally feels like she can bake, because it’s like one of the healing arts, right?  Sometimes accidentally drops the gum she’s chewing into the mix.

Veera/Mika: Hides in the corner and says very little, but produces badass baked goods.  She then hides them somewhere secret in the tent.

Beth: is dead.

Special Guest Star
Delphine: Makes amazing, gorgeous French pastries that are better than anyone’s despite them constantly messing up her batter and workstation.   Shares a “magic” brownie with Cosima then watches in pained silence as the geekmonkey knocks over her elaborate croquembouche

Puts the effort in although ultimately she could put frosting on cardboard and you’d WANT to eat it.

This needs to be a Thing.  The Orphan Black Holiday Baking Show.

Love the idea of Cosima and Mary Berry stoned in one of the tents. No one can find them for the longest time – until Helena’s inappropriate use of a blowtorch burns down the tent and Delphine and Sarah scrabble for fire extinguishers.

Felix watches from the sidelines with Mrs. S.  Both supremely unimpressed.

Agree on OB show runners. I want to believe fan reaction played a role in reversal, but even so, I think S4 could have been very different if Turn wasn’t renewed (or smth else happened with KS schedule/desire to appear). But likely only OB insiders have the information that would prove or disprove that, so they can spin all they want at this point.

danasoupchef:

They are spinning so much I’m surprised they can stand upright. Some people just want to believe them no matter what they say. Once upon a time I trusted them but they broke that trust when they acted like fucking assholes towards Delphine/Cophine fans. Acting like we were asking for special treatment and ruining their creative vision.

There it is.

my heart is still palpitating from the cophine reunion…..but one thing i still don’t understand (especially in light of the reunion) is why the showrunners trolled us so fucking hard. they said deeply offensive things, which just makes me feel ashamed for watching the damn show now. it’s like i’m not free to enjoy it anymore, which sucks because TV is supposed to be fun and relaxing, right?

mveloc:

your feelings are very valid, friend. and i think the reason why you can’t understand why the show runners “trolled” us is because there’s no sense to be had.

a few weeks ago, there was a post circulating around with rough notes from the season four writing room that clearly included shay as part of the major plot line. i think what that post proves is that the writers hadn’t initially intended to bring delphine back, or if they did, i don’t think they were planning a big cophine reunion. i think they were set on developing the shay/shaysima plot line (this is also pretty evident with delphine giving shay the business card at the end of 3×10) but when they saw the crazy amount of backlash, they knew that was a no-go. in the immediate aftermath of season three, before they had even committed to delphine being alive and had time to truly experience the severity of the backlash, they definitely said a lot of hurtful things because i feel like they were trying to cover their asses and justify their decision. but when they realized it wasn’t working, i think they caved and went the delphine route. of course, they couldn’t admit to caving because i guess in their minds it would make them appear less credible as writers, so instead of retracting some of their hurtful statements, apologizing and changing their tune, they became defensive about their decision and then became really vague about delphine’s character because they didn’t want to flat-out reveal she was alive but they still wanted us to keep watching and to give them a chance. i feel like them “trolling” us was their way of trying to throw us a bone without admitting to their mistake– which is why neither of us can make sense of it.

it’s like when your racist aunt says something really racist and you call her out on it, but instead of apologizing and admitting to being racist, she just decides to go find herself a singular black friend to make herself feel better and self-assured, and in her mind, that means she doesn’t have to apologize for anything she’s said because she’s exonerated from every racist thing she’s ever said or done simply by associating with a person of colour; instead of admitting to hurting the lgbt community and perpetuating the “bury your gays” trope, we got a couple of scenes in the finale that feel like they’ve been torn right out of fanfic (which i’m not complaining about) so they can go “see! we haven’t mistreated the queers at all! look at the half-naked ebro we gave you! we wouldn’t give you half-naked ebro and a tender cophine reunion if we had no respect for the lgbt community! we did this for you! see! this must mean we love and respect you!”

that being said, i don’t think there’s anything wrong with enjoying the show. television is meant to entertain and if you’re feeling entertained, then embrace it. there’s no need to feel ashamed because you aren’t doing anything wrong. i think the important thing to remember is to be an active consumer rather than a passive one– be conscious of the politics surrounding the media you consume and whatnot. i still watch ob (whether or not i find it truly entertaining anymore is up for debate), i’m still a cophine fan, but i’m fully aware of all of the bullshit that’s spiralling around the show. it certainly isn’t without its faults, but finding pleasure in something doesn’t expunge all of its faults. you’re allowed to feel hurt and betrayed by some of the things that were said and done by the show runners because that’s your right as a consumer of media, but you’re also allowed to find joy and relief when you can. the world is a dark enough place as it is, so anything that can give you a brief reprieve isn’t something to be ashamed of. like i said– i think it’s important to just be aware of what’s going on. it’s the people who are carrying on like “orphan black is the greatest show ever and the cast/writers are gods who can say and do no wrong!” that i’m more concerned about, to be honest.

‘be an active consumer rather than a passive one– be conscious of the politics surrounding the media you consume’

This right here.

I’m glad Delphine is alive, but can’t help but think it was still wrong for the OB team to hang their queer fans out to dry for a year like that – especially as they know it’s a ‘sensitive issue.’

The Wynonna Earp team have a better handle on this and they just got here.

As awful as Lexa’s death was, and as furious as the response to it was, and as many telly lesbians that we’ve lost since, I’ve got this terrible feeling Delphine Cormier might be the very last straw broken over the very last nerve of the very last angry lesbian on Earth.

At best we might experience Pained Indifference or, more likely, thousands of laptops thrown through windows while thousands of voices cry out at being mad as hell and not going to take it anymore.
