“The current buildup of tremendous force at Standing Rock should be understood as a military invasion of a sovereign nation on behalf of a foreign oil company.”
This is 100% accurate. Native lands are NOT UNITED STATES TERRITORY. They were NEVER ceded to our government and our government SIGNED TREATIES acknowledging this! But now a foreign oil company says their lands are in the way and so on behalf of this foreign interest our government has sent military forces to invade the land so they can sell it off to be destroyed for profit
Sophia Wilansky was evacuated to Minneapolis, where she is undergoing
rounds of surgery. It’s not clear whether she will lose her hand.
“There’s no words to be a parent and look at your kid, look at her
arm that’s not there,” said Wilansky’s father, Wayne Wilansky,
struggling to speak through his tears in an interview with local
Minneapolis television station KMSP. “She’s peacefully trying to get people to not destroy the water supply, and they’re trying to kill her.”
The local sheriff’s department told
the Los Angeles Times that the explosion that injured Wilansky was not
caused by police explosives, and alleged that protesters had been making
their own explosives out of propane bottles, one of which may have
blown up and hurt Wilansky. Protesters fiercely denied the charge, and
Wilansky’s father said that doctors had found evidence of a concussion
grenade inside her body.
“A surgeon said he pulled shrapnel out of her arm,” he said. “It’s pretty clear it’s a grenade that caused this.”
Sophia has made a huge Kiddush HaShem. I hope she and her parents pull through this tough time. I hope her courage and sacrifice move others. And I hope she is victorious, alongside the Sioux of Standing Rock.
Thanksgiving was founded on the genocide of America’s indigenous people. Celebrating it is like being thankful for the Holocaust.
“The United States is a nation defined by its original sin: the genocide of American Indians […]. American Indian tribes are viewed as an inherent threat to the nation, poised to expose the great lies of U.S. democracy: that we are a nation of laws and not random power; that we are guided by reason and not faith; that we are governed by representation and not executive order; and finally, that we stand as a self-determined citizenry and not a kingdom of blood or aristocracy […]. From the perspective of American Indians, ‘democracy’ has been wielded with impunity as the first and most virulent weapon of mass destruction.”
Young native man from the Ojibwe nation, reports being openly targeted by a police officer using “non-lethal” weapons to cause serious harm.
“He shot me with a rubber bullet right in the belly button, and when I showed him that he had hurt me, he just smiled and shot both my kneecaps,” he said.
“I was tear gassed over 15 times, which made it hard to breathe and left my face burning for hours. I got hosed down with a water cannon in freezing temperatures leaving me hypothermic, and I was slammed into a barbed wire barricade out of panic caused by the police after a flash grenade was thrown and caught fire to a field,” said Cheyenne, a young native woman from Michigan, whose face was streaked with tear gas, and whose eyes were red and swollen.
Yep. Thanksgiving. Native American Heritage Month. Celebrated in 2016 by encroaching on Native land and assaulting Native bodies.
It’s the traditional American way.
Oh yeah its the time of year to be thankful, therefore give thanks for rubber bullets, tear gas, water / sound cannons, concussion grenades and the freedoms for a bunch of evil bastards to attack groups of unarmed people without the “legal” ability to defend themselves.
As a Native woman who has been to Standing Rock three times, and whose health now prevents me from making a fourth trip, I have my own asks. Call every number put in front of you. Jam every phone line. Look at the target list of financial institutions supporting this pipeline. Pick a bank. Shut it down, just like we did in Chicago on Saturday and people did in Philadelphia this morning. The Trump administration hasn’t even taken hold yet, and I watched over a livestream last night as my friends and people were battered with water streams that can tear skin from flesh and eyes from sockets. I watched my people hold space and scramble to save one another as drops of water froze to razor wire.
I know marginalized people around the county are organizing for their own survival right now, and sitting around tables discussing the difficult days ahead. But a strategy of protection, defense and obstruction cannot wait for the inauguration of an autocrat. It must be applied here and now.
Please show us that you see us. Please do all you can to stop this.
If you cannot travel to Standing Rock, or support or organize an action where you live, consider contacting one of these Sheriffs and police departments that have loaned out the officers who are abusing Native peoples in Standing Rock. Jam their phone lines and tell them to bring their people home. If your community is on this list, actively organize to recall the deployment.

Reblogging for that anon that sent me that last ask.
This is fucking insane! People being UNARMED still face such violent treatment by the police. Ofc the media called the peaceful protest a RIOT but people have to know the truth. Indigenous people were brutally attacked by the law enforcement today.
It’s an army VS unarmed people who only want to protect their land, water and legacy.
I will not keep silent. Let us stop ND Police from further violence & abuses in Standing Rock!!!
BOOST
WTF?!
Authorities had been saying they were using a fire engine to put out a fire, news media saying it was a ‘clash.’ The drone footage clearly shows a water cannon, no one is putting out a ‘fire,’ no ‘fire engine.’
American friends, please pass this on to your media and representatives. This cannot hold.
Please boost What is happening with #NoDAPL and Standing Rock all over. What is happening is genocide. Do not allow this to go down in history as our collective American complicity of investing in Native/Indigenous genocide
