I’m not that familiar with American ratings, just very general understanding, but I think a little more than ratings decides whether a programme is renewed or not. How much support does it have at the network, for example? My red flag on this programme was the reduction of episodes from 16 to 13, the bad publicity from this past year – and if, possible, any conflicts within the production (which we may never know about), such as actors wanting to leave, etc.
Since the network bought another property from Rothenberg, and Pedowitz showed unconditional support for him last summer, the chances of cancellation are probably 50/50, if other factors are more important than network support. Yes, they’ll want to see if the viewers are out there, but niche programming like this tends to survive even with a tiny audience.
Just another note on this: the ratings for the first episode and the ratings for the finale will probably be the highest the show sees for the season (and that’s common with many programmes). Have a look at those when available and see where things are at compared to previous years.
