Change the world.
Media talks a lot of benefit cuts and people struggling with this, disabled people being denied money and mobility cars, the rise of foodbanks. It’s easy to look at it and think the media is exaggerating, that it’s not as bad as they make it out to be.
I work for a welfare charity on the helpline, doing benefit checks and grant searches. I get 30+ calls, and we’re massively understaffed for the amount of calls we get. Every single day, I hear people’s stories. I don’t ask them why they’re calling, I ask how I can help, and the caller will tell me what is happening in their life at the present moment.
The media isn’t exaggerating. Every call I get is someone about to be made homeless or is homeless, is starving and can’t get out the house due to having no method of transportation due to their car being taken, needing emergency help, getting benefits that don’t even cover the rent let alone the bills and cost of living. For 9 hours a day, I hear stories throughout the UK of how the population are suffering.
If you think you won’t ever suffer from welfare cuts, don’t be so sure. People can fall ill at a moment’s notice, can have someone providing financial stability die, you can lose your job and be restricted to find another. Benefits are there to help when circumstances hit you so hard you don’t know how you’re going to live.
The benefit cuts effect everyone in the UK. They will effect every member of your family, your friends, every person you know who may need them to survive. The cuts have only happened due to Tories being in power.
For the sake of your future, for your financial stability, for your friends, your family. Register to vote, and don’t vote Tory. The Tories want the rich to get richer and the poor to get poorer.
For the good of the country, vote, and don’t let the Tories win.
You’ve got till 11:59pm tomorrow night to register to vote.
If you’re not registered get registered now and vote on June 8th.
If you’re unsure of where and how to register, here’s the link!!
“The deadline to register online through the official website is 23.59 BST on Monday 22 May.”
You still have time, UK friends!
Please, this is so important. I would be SO HAPPY if one of our parties here put out a manifesto like Labour’s.
General election 2017: Two million apply to register to vote – BBC News
Protest votes are a privilege. One that is most enjoyed by people who are privileged. When you wake up the next day and Trump won, nobody poor or disadvantaged will thank you for your protest vote. If you are progressive and care about the rights of minorities and the other, vote for someone who at least lends their ear to their concerns. Otherwise I will just assume you are selfish. Perfection is often the enemy of greatness. If you are still stuck in the period of your life when you expect there will always be a more perfect and more viable option, maybe you just haven’t matured enough. Life honestly involves compromise in even our most basic decisions—and especially in politics. That’s simply how our country has gotten as far as it has.
To all my American readers,
I implore you. Vote.
Every election matters, and each one from now on, the stakes are always higher. We face a future on the cusp of major questions of personal privacy, globalization, climate change, shrinking natural resources, job scarcity, war, personal and collective freedoms, the rights of minority groups, reproductive rights, and healthcare. We always stand on this edge, and it matters every time.
I know there is the argument to be made that votes don’t matter. But they do. Not just for president. Know who you are electing down ticket as well. Take 15 minutes and educate yourself on your choices for representatives and senators. They will conform Supreme Court nominees and pass laws. They are important.
As I get older, I can see how mindsets change. Not on purpose and not maliciously. But you get older. You work 50+ hours a week and drink the rest away. You scroll through Twitter and grab sound bites. But the real, truest, most genuine parts of political conversation happen with the youngest voters. It will happen to you one day when you won’t know why the kids are yelling. You have a mortgage and soccer practice to get to and dinner to defrost and a uniform to iron and brownies to bake for the bake sale. So be gentle to those who may not be educated and be kind when you educate. Give people the benefit of evolving and they will because you give them that moment to understand. A good rule of thumb is: the first thought you have is what you were conditioned to think, the next is what makes your character.
You catch more flies with honey.
The point is, vote. Vote because in the next for years, threats will become more real. In the next four years we can try to reform gun laws and stop our own from being gunned down or beaten to death for being themselves. Remember sandy hook. Remember Orlando. Vote because women deserve justice for their bodies and the freedom to decide their own future. Vote because the educational system failed you or because it didn’t, and you may not know it yet but you are in the minority. Vote because the threats to our security are very real but should not dictate the willingness to love in our hearts. Vote because the planet is tired of being abused and we need to do more. Because Leo said so. Vote because companies should not spend less on taxes than yourself. Vote because citizens are being hunted, attacked, and shot on film for all to see and receiving no justice because the murderers wear badges. Vote because we have not come far from those black and white images of fire hoses being turned on protestors demanding equality in their own home. Vote because you can lose your job because of who you kiss goodnight. Vote because soldiers return home and lose to their own demons without any assistance after offering their mind, bodies, and souls for their missions. Vote because we have an army that is larger than the 9 next armies put together, all of which are allies. Vote because as a nation we talk about enemies more than we used to. Vote because technologies are changing rapidly and government oversight is largely unchecked. Vote because our generations and those to follow will spend their entire lives burdened with the debt of an education. Vote because the gap between upper and lower is sickeningly high. Vote because prisons are ways to make money and have created a system of modern slavery on our own country. Vote because you will be paid differently for the same job based on you skin color or gender. Vote because drug laws are ineffective and the war on drugs is coded language for the war on minorities. Vote because all of these issues will be relevant in the next four years and I can promise you that because they were relevant in the last four. And the four before that.
Vote because your goddamn tired of the difference between the American reality and the unattainable American dream.
Vote and change minds and educate and be kind.
It matters who you vote for, and I’m with her, and I will be voting on November 8th.
Eloquently put.
America – please don’t make the mistakes we did. VOTE.

It’s my understanding that Black voters are aligning with Trump in greater and greater numbers as election day draws near. This is a picture of Donald Trump with his parents. For those of you too young to know the significance of what they are wearing, they are Klan robes, an in the Ku Klux Klan, and they were life long members. Fred Trump, Donald’s father was arrested in 1927 at an event for Klansmen, almost 2 decades before Donald was born. This picture is towards the end of Fred Trump’s life in 1999. Fred Trump, Donald Trump’s father, was a member of the Klan for more than SEVENTY years. Yet, this year, Donald Trump said he didn’t know enough about the Klan to disavow them. Why would he lie about that?
I am BEGGING everyone to please repost this and repost it often until election day. Donald Trump is a liar and a racist. His not so hidden agenda is to restore white power to America. Understand that his policies will be detrimental to Black people in ways far greater and more far-reaching than we can comprehend.
Which is precisely why I posted the link to his father’s 1927 arrest at a Klan event. His father was a Klan member.
And this is further proof that his father was the same Fred Trump and very well may have been involved in the killing of someone.
Has there ever been a presidential candidate with so much nastiness in his background and present?
Please, he should never have been taken seriously as a candidate. By anyone.
And yes, we’ve got our own effed up types here, too. Everyone suffers.
you know how i bug you to register to vote and then vote and it’s really super-annoying? well the republican party platform is rolling out and it includes a 100% ban on abortions and revocation of same-sex marriage and no background check for guns and oh yes also conversion therapy for LGBTQ+ people so yeah me bugging you is not going to change sorry not sorry please register to vote and then vote?
Other “highlights”, per the New York Times:
- military women barred from combat
- coal considered “clean” energy
- pornography declared public menace
- religion (read: Christianity) must be used as guide for legislation
- teaching the bible in public schools
- building a wall along the Mexican border like Trump wants
Reblogging for the NYT article link, and also this one from OccupyDemocrats. Your vote matters so much.
Please vote and please don’t be complacent. So very not good polling numbers for Clinton came out this morning, and in general I think polling is going to consistently undercount support for Trump (hi, I look at data regarding the election as part of my day job, I am not just talking out of my ass). Vote. Even if you think your state is “safe.” And please learn about your local down-ticket races, because that’s where the policy that affects your daily life happens.
If this passes, it will set our country back DECADES. Reblog so everyone can see and then vote in November.
I thought this was a hoax or a joke, because even the Republican Party couldn’t be that daft, regressive, and hateful.
It’s not a joke. It’s not a hoax.
VOTE.
I don’t care if you don’t like Hillary. I don’t much like her either. But the alternative is WORSE.
America, please.
Look what the right wing in the UK has done to us through Brexit – don’t let even worse happen to you (and, thus, the rest of the world).
Seriously. 14 year old niece got me into this and she passed out ages ago.
Weakling.
