@joshthesocialbutterfly Probably because the dialect of Scottish English has developed alongside Nordic, Icelandic, and Gaelic languages, creating differences between that dialect and Standard International English ( the dialect spoken in Midwestern America ). Similar to the differences between African American Vernacular English and Standard International English, but with a different set of languages mixing with English. Maybe don’t make fun of the way people speak and write???
Okay sure but I know people talk and act like this specifically because they think it’s “hood” or cool or what the shit ever. No matter your dialect. People type relatively the same. But sure I’m horrible ikr
They’re not being “hood”, they’re Scottish…
Well idk how you got that information but either way I know a lot of people to act like that just to be cool or what ever but if that’s just how scots speak then my bad
“idk how you got that information” …Are you serious? If they’re saying stuff like “tae”, “oot”, “naw”, “maw”, “dug”, “yersel”, etc, I’m pretty sure they’re Scottish people being Scottish. If anything, they’re people trying to sound more Scottish, not trying to sound “hood”. Have you ever met a Scottish person once in your life? Or read anything Scottish? Or watched anything Scottish?
Heck, if using words like that means you’re trying to sound “hood”, then I guess classic newspaper comic strips “The Broons” and “Oor Wullie” are the most “hood” thing ever:
OMG, this is why people hate Americans (I mean, besides the massive imperialism). I swear I saw that first “ma” and I’m pretty sure I started reading in a Scottish accent.
Though I will confess I was a little confused at first because “dugs” made me think of breasts. Boy was THAT an interesting image.
