A one-shot set in the steampunk universe of The Flame and The Dame, just prior to the start of that story – and a response to @anonbemetoo‘s ‘Strangers on a Train’ prompt.

Clarke Griffin is a nightclub singer and bar owner who needs a few days away from her life – she settles on an overnight trip on the Skytrain (a steampunk version of the Orient Express) and meets a mysterious woman.  Thirst and chaos ensue.

Last call.

[Scene: a nervous-looking older man meets with a millennial in a darkened alley.]

Millennial: what’s the target?
Man: I don’t know if I want to do this.
Millennial: people don’t come to us until they’ve made up their minds.
Man: Alright. Styrofoam cups.
Millennial: Six months and they’re gone.
Man: Can millennials really kill styrofoam cups?
Millennial: we can kill anything, but not cheaply.
Man: I can pay. I work for a plasti-
Millennial: I don’t need to know and frankly I don’t care. One of us will deliver a routing number to a Zurich account. Two billion euros, then we start.
Man: Al..alright.
Millennial: It will be your last chance to reconsider. Once the money is processed you’ll have no contact with us again.
Man: I understand. It has to be done.
Millennial: Then it’s sealed. The cups will join chain restaurants and diamonds in the void.
Man: Thank..thank you.
Millennial: We don’t require thanks. Participation is its own trophy.

wow that story was just. kinda deep. like all the ghosts you refer to that are around them. like the title is literally about reminders of death. but. they. live? is lexas dream like presentiment? plz no MCD! but soulmates ya. they always meet. like how many times now? you could just write nothing. but. sidefics of them meeting n forgetting. cool cool cool. gimme more plz n thank

I’m very glad you liked and thank you for reading and taking the time to comment.  I think you are asking about major character death? Nope. Not from me (or, if I did, it wouldn’t take).  I don’t know about writing more one-offs like this, I think I’d better get back to the main story.  🙂

Thank you for that little story!!! Now im just thirsting for more while being sad they wont remember each other or will they later in the flame and the dame? Will this train trip be remembered or brought up again?

Very welcome and thank you for reading. It is possible the event will be brought up again, but this is one moment they won’t remember sharing. These two have a history of being connected without really knowing it. This will change, of course. Destiny and all that. 😉

i know a lot of you don’t give a fuck about latinos issues, but venezuela may or may not be entering in a TOTAL dictatorship tomorrow, and i’m so fucking angry, i’m so sad…i’m not venezuelan i’m argentinian and i’m so angry because we can’t do shit to help our venezuelan friends we can do nothing to help the people from venezuela we can just PRAY that everything will okay and venezuela can kick maduro’s ass out of their country, so CAN YOU [THE REST OF THE WORLD] JUST HELP US, LATINOAMERICA, PRAYING FOR VENEZUELA??? please, i’m losing my shit out here because i don’t have not a single way to contact my venezuelan friend and i’m fucking worried. sorry for swearing i’m really freaking out

Fifteen people died in riots yesterday (July 30, 207) alone. People are literally starving to death, not because they don’t have any money, but because there simply isn’t any food in supermarkets across the country. The shelves are completely bare – no food, no water, no toilet paper, no nothing.

This isn’t a political crisis anymore. It’s a humanitarian crisis. And it pisses me off that people don’t care about it as much as they would if this wasn’t happening in a Latinamerican country. You KNOW this wouldn’t have gotten this far if it was France, or the UK, or Canada. But because the people suffering are Latinos, the global community doesn’t give a shit, and that directly leads to people dying.

#listen I’m Colombian and the horror stories we hear about what’s going on at the border chill me to the bone#please do whatever you can to help Venezuela

do you know of anything those of us living in north america or elsewhere can do to help?  if not that’s totally fine it’s not your responsibility at all, just wondering since you are a lot closer geographically to what’s happening than i am.
