Hi doc! theres money on this so, if EVERYONE gets nightblood who will be the next commander?

Are you betting money on my response? Hope you haven’t put much money on it.

As much as I like logical progressions in stories, this show writes itself into so many corners, that if you offer a suggestion, it will almost always be wrong.

So – a new Commander? Who? Why? Gaia will likely turn up again, so will Indra. Who is connected to them? Octavia.  Those Aragorn jokes seem a little less funny?  Octavia has been in the process of becoming something for a while. Does it seem a likely fit?  Perhaps, in the future, at the end of the series.  She fits the mould of mythic heroes:

  • A secret birth, a child that had to be kept secret (Arthur, Aragorn, Luke/Leia)
  • Apprenticeship with an older, noble character (Arthur, Luke)
  • A threat to the old order (on the Ark and on the ground) (Arthur, Aragorn, Luke/Leia)
  • Survives a terrible wound/fall (Aragorn, Luke)
  • The claiming of a weapon of power (Excalibur, Anakin’s lightsabre, Isildur’s sword) – in Octavia’s case, this could mean The Flame, or maybe she’s given Lexa’s sword?  This is where I lose the thread because Octavia hated Lexa (she might have developed a little respect after death) and having her succeed Lexa would just be another loss of whatever legacy Lexa has lying around.  Octavia is not her heir.  She’s a warrior, a murderer as well, which taints her a bit – but if there are growth spurts for her character, who knows?

Now, Lexa was seen as somewhat Arthurian (in series 3, at least), but Octavia rings certain bells.  If they will have another commander, it makes sense to me that this character would not emerge until the end, a new commander for a new day (if, you know, they all survive) and being a character who has an understanding of both Grounders and Skaikru, Octavia might emerge as that leader.  But who knows?

It is possible that, if given night blood, Clarke could take the Flame again but for no use other than to have it, not to be Commander.   Sadly, it seems Clarke’s agency, fierceness and leadership have been undermined and overwritten and she’s basically a shell of the character she was.  Niylah telling Clarke that ‘Lexa lives through her’ might be hinting at something, but – not enough to suggest anything (except a Clexa endgame scenario that isn’t terribly likely).  Clarke could wind up a brood mare like all the other women who could survive Apocalypse part deux, just settle down and repopulate the world, or she could save her thankless people one last time and wave goodbye.

This last bit, of Clarke being killed off (which some seem to want to see) is a problem to me because the makers of this show got scorched over killing off one queer character already (as we all know, eh) – are they likely to risk pissing off everyone again by killing another?  Clarke could very well live and I’d love to see her as the Commander proper.

Now, having said that, it isn’t at all likely to happen.

Like I said: hope you didn’t put too much money in this!

howdy doc i tend to read smuttier stuff (haha) i love dwbyg madness and didnt this story kind of come out of that? so will this story be pretty smutty? curious minds want to know!

The story came about from some Nachkru head cannons – so, a bit?   It isn’t DWBYG, however, that magical story belongs completely to @femininenachos and I doubt anyone could top her level of emotional smuttiness.

I’m in a holding pattern regarding ‘smut’ in this story.  Is this something people want to see?

Am I stupid for asking that?

A friend still likes the show and I’m upset with her for still watching bc of what happened. How do you deal with friends or followers who still support?

If she’s your friend, be her friend. If she likes something you do not, or you feel is harmful, you can ask her to respect your boundaries about not discussing it or watching it around you – but it’s not your job to police what your friends like or what they do or do not watch.  Just because she likes the show and watches it doesn’t mean she is out to harm you over it.  Some people can watch it and enjoy it without finding anything deeper in it but the surface entertainment. That’s okay.   If she’s your friend, she’ll respect your point of view and your boundaries.

If not, if she fails to understand why the show is harmful to you (if it is), if she engages in behaviour that disrespects your boundary, try to engage respectfully with her over it, maybe point out some of the media conversation over it – don’t let it be reduced to a ‘shipping war’ or just about a character. There are bigger issues involved, for all minority representation and for the queer community at large.  Don’t expect her to immediately understand (especially if it is not within her experiences of seeing or being harmed by these issues), but give yourselves time to work it out together.  That’s what friends do.

Hi there just wanting to say i really LOVE The Flame and The Dame and wanting to know if its based upon anything like the films you’ve talked about? do you now when we’ll get a new chapter and will Clarke be in it?

The only thing it is based upon, really, is the excellent humour of NachoKru, who I think had the initial idea for a noir AU.

I’m trying to update each Sunday, we’ll see if that holds and yes, you can expect Clarke in the next chapter.   Thanks for reading.  🙂

OMG doc what have you DONE? that last chapter was so freaking good and like kind of beautiful? like beca lives in some sky lab and Lexa is her daughter who i am guessing is paralyzed? now i’m questioning reality here like is she in the past? are we gonna see little clarke with little lexa? this is so not what i expected. will you post agin this week? please dont keep us waiting!

Wow, don’t think my story is worthy of your comment, but thank you very much.  Yes, Becca’s home/lab is cloud-bound, if you like, but Lexa is not paralysed.  The story is told a bit out of sequence, so we do see the past and their present (maybe even their future) sometimes jumbled up.

All the rest might be spoilery, sorry.  I will try to post each Sunday if I can.  Thank you again for reading.  🙂
