Those are just inspiration, not to be taken too literally. I love some of the details as well, but it’s not an overt steampunk-theme (for one thing, it isn’t a Victorian setting). I hope to update on Sunday sometime. Thanks for writing. 🙂

I saw your comment on ej’s contract n yea nobody knows but she did post like this really enthusiastic tweet about the renewal so like everybodys bummed today who do you trust
Trust yourself. This is one show of hundreds that you will likely view in your lifetime. It caused harm, yes, and if you are looking for some kind of closure, I’m very sorry but neither the show nor its cast can give it to you. It is foolish to look to the cast for anything. Enjoy what they do, but try not to take it too personally. They’re building their lives and you have to build yours as well. They can inspire or let you down, it’s up to you. Find other things. They are out there. You can make them, too. Find other things and let your world open up. It will.
Why do so many of ya’ll want to see Lexa as some kind of weak-ass debutante who cant hold one of her pretty candles to clarke?
Not that I’ve ever seen her portrayed as a ‘weak-ass debutante,’ there is something known as satire (or crack) whereby fans or writers enjoy playing a character’s underwritten characteristics or creating new ones simply because it is fun and entertaining or, in some cases, speaks to a need.
If you don’t like it, don’t read it. I’m sure you wouldn’t want to be criticised for your own personal interpretation of the character or story, especially if it isn’t harming anyone.
Pop Quiz: you’re trapped in an elevator that has no outside phone or help line. You shout for help, but there is no response. You look at your cell and notice it has one bar left. You can make one call. Who do you call?
My mum. She’d never stop till I was found/released.
Hi doc PLEASE tell me your posting an update for the Flame & The Dame soon? that first chapter was too short & i need to know what is going on! PRETTY PLEASE?
Currently not sleeping due to writing of update that, if I am not convinced it is utter shite, will, possibly, be posted by Sunday.
hey doc, i’m just dropping by to say that the flame and the dame is EXCELLENT! the first-person pov works really well with the theme (the only first-person pov fic i’ve ever read, haha). also is it going to be just a one-shot or are you going to continue it? (please continue it) i’m interested to see how the steampunk elements play into the story. lastly, (i don’t know if it was your intention) but i was laughing at all the euphemisms for clarke’s boobs :))
Thank you for this lovely message, anon – I’m not fond of first-person POV as well, but it is a noir, that’s practically a requirement. I may do something different for subsequent chapters. If by one-shot do you mean one chapter? No, it will have multiple chapters (not sure how many at the moment). As for the steampunk elements, it is as much aesthetic (lends well to a post-apocalyptic feel) as it is a means of conveying some unlikely ‘science.’ I don’t plan on being too overt on the topic, but I do plan on having a dirigible at some point.
Clarke’s boobs deserve all the inane euphemisms we can muster. 🙂
Thank you again!
Hey doc i love your infodumps n how detailed you get. don’t ever feel shitty about that. it’s cool. and I’m loving The Flame and the Dame! and you say its going to be steampunk! so like how is that going to be? is the story set in the PA or is this like depression-era? it’s so cool please keep going!
Thank you so much, I really can’t help it, though maybe I could if I just stopped writing. 🙂
As for the story, yes, I love steampunk and this story is set in an alternate 1932 (there’s a reason for that year, and it will likely be too obscure for most, so I’ll shut up on that), and steampunk is a great fantastical way to put across some unlikely science. I do love, too, that is lends itself to a kind of post-apocalyptic feel. That said, it’s probably just a cheesy noir. 🙂
Pop Quiz: They’ve sent the Winter Soldier after you, but you’ve been given and hour’s head start. What do you do?
Dash over to the Disney Store, purchase a WS action figure, so that when he arrives, I can get his autograph.
He might be distracted long enough for me to escape.
for your CC anon: i was at the San Diego Comic Con in 2015 and met with some of the Fear cast iinclding Alycia and remember they were uncomfortable with fans paying for autographs and pictures. I’ve seen that from other celebs too. Not everyone likes the con experience because it is just that, a con.
Back at my first convention, in the 80s, you paid to enter and that was it. It’s gone from being fan-run to serious corporate promotional event engineering with lots of money to be made (some of it legitimately, some of it just theft). I can well believe there are artists who are uncomfortable with the scheme and want nothing to do with it, while others just see it as another working day for which they are paid.
Certainly, if you stand to make some serious money from it (I’ve heard of actors walking away with hundreds of thousands), it’s hard to imagine anyone turning it down – but people do and for personal as well as business-related reasons.
Some might even think it tacky to make money off of fans who were harmed by their show. I don’t know. Next year might be a different proposition. Thanks for writing.
U watchin all the clexacon stuff? sum boos on TW so mad Elycia not there i’m like its CLEXAcon i guess they dint git the memo
I don’t think it was ever in the cards (this year at least) for them to attend. Regardless of contractual obligations to their shows (ET has finished filming, but the show is on the air, ADC has started rehearsals/filming for FTWD), it seems they are more likely to attend when they both can appear together. Look out for next year.
